Hours & Fees at Middlesex Fells Reservation

Middlesex Fells Reservation is open year-round, seven days a week. The reservation itself has no gate or entry fee — access to trails, ponds, and most facilities is free of charge.

Park Hours

The reservation is accessible dawn to dusk year-round. Parking lots are typically open from sunrise to sunset. Specific facilities such as the Sheepfold dog park may have their own posted hours — check signage at each location.

Parking lot gates open at 9:00 AM and close within 30 minutes of sunset. If you park in a gated lot, plan accordingly — cars left after gate closing may be locked in.

Admission Fees

There is no admission fee to enter Middlesex Fells Reservation. The trails, scenic overlooks, and most recreational areas are free and open to the public.

Some activities and amenities may have associated costs:

• Kayak & Canoe Rentals — Paddle Boston operates seasonal rentals at Spot Pond. Fees vary by watercraft and duration — visit their website for current pricing.
• Fishing License — A valid Massachusetts fishing license is required for anglers 15 and older. Licenses are available through the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.

Seasonal Notes

• Spring & Summer — Peak season. Parking lots fill early on weekends, especially at South Border Road and the Sheepfold. Arrive before 9am for best availability. See our Parking & Directions guide.
• Fall — Popular for foliage. Trails and overlooks are especially busy in October.
• Winter — Trails remain open for hiking and cross-country skiing when conditions allow. Some facilities may have limited access during severe weather.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome throughout Middlesex Fells Reservation on a leash. The Sheepfold dog park provides a large, open off-leash area — there are no separate sections for large and small dogs.
