Swimming at Middlesex Fells Reservation

Swimming is not allowed in the Middlesex Fells Reservation, with one exception: Wright's Pond in Medford, where the City of Medford runs a lifeguarded beach for Medford residents from late June to late August. Spot Pond, Bellevue Pond, and the North, Middle, and South Reservoirs are closed to swimming year-round under DCR rules.

Water Activities That Are Permitted

If you don't have a Wright's Pond pass, there are still several ways to enjoy the water at the Fells:

• Fishing — you can fish Spot Pond, and Wright's Pond away from the swim areas, with a Massachusetts fishing license. See our fishing page.
• Waterside walking — The perimeter trails around Spot Pond and the reservoirs offer scenic water views and are a popular way to enjoy the ponds without entering the water.
