What to Expect on the Trail
The Rock Circuit Trail lives up to its name — expect a lot of rock. Much of the trail traverses exposed granite ledges and boulder fields, particularly around Melrose Rock, Black Rock, and Pinnacle Rock. The footing requires attention, especially when wet. Some junctions are unmarked or worn, so carrying a map or GPS track is a good idea.
Highlights along the route include sweeping views over the forest canopy and the Middlesex Fells Reservoir from elevated ledges.
Highlights: Melrose Rock, Black Rock & Pinnacle Rock
The trail's signature stretch runs across a string of exposed granite outcrops — Melrose Rock, Black Rock, and Pinnacle Rock — each offering open views over the surrounding forest and the Middlesex Fells Reservoir. It's the payoff for the trail's rocky, technical footing.
